Sven is a Certified German Tax Advisor and a founding partner of Petersen + Partner mbB. He focuses on advising clients on national and cross-border tax matters and is certified by the German chamber of tax advisors as a specialist for cross-border tax advice. Sven is an expert in advising multinational companies as well as in providing full service tax and accounting advice for mid-size business, individuals and families.
Sven has more than 15 years of 'big four' experience working with Deloitte and Ernst & Young and is a partner in Petersen + Partner mbB since 2015. He is serving clients on national and international tax and accounting matters, covering a wide range of industries and taking care of all their domestic and cross-border affairs.
Sven is taking over the German tax compliance work for various German and non-German companies including multinational pharma groups and companies in the financial service industry as well as the accounting and financial statement preperation of many companies. He specializes in advising international clients doing business in Germany and German clients that are invested abroad with a special focus on cross-border tax planning, cross-border tax structuring and secondments for employees. During his secondment to Deloitte's German Desk in New York (International Core of Excellence, ICE) in 2009 and 2010, he gained a deep insight into the interaction of the German and the US tax system and the special needs of US based clients. He is well experienced in tax planning, restructurings, M&A work and private equity transactions. Having a deep understanding of tax accounting and the interaction of tax planning and the impllied financial statements results, Sven is experienced in projects to optimizing a company's global effective tax rate (ETR) as well as in audit work with respect to the tax positions for German GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP financial statements. He has taken over various tax management consulting project (enhancing processes, IT support and organization of global companies tax functions) and the preparation and audit of the tax reporting of open ended investment funds.
Sven published his doctoral thesis ‘Besteuerung und die Wahl der Organisationsform’ about the influence of taxation on business organization in 2006. Furthermore, he has composed several articles for German tax journals and regularly gives lectures on various German tax issues.
Sven holds a degree in business administration from Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University since 2001. In 2004 he took his postgraduate degree Master of Business Research. Sven did his PhD in business economics in 2006. He qualified as German Certified Tax Advisor in 2007 and as a specialist for cross-border tax advice (Fachberater für Internationales Steuerrecht) in 2015. He is a member of the German chamber of tax advisors, the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and the Munich business tax forum (Münchner Unternehmenssteuerforum).
